Jason Whited became the face of country music in Europe over the summer. His country music has been accepted and loved in the western world. When asked why he likes music he said, “Music is a universal language. Even if it’s in other words, you get the feeling of it.” Scarecrow King, his debut, was received with warm welcome, especially by Europe. This album can be found (in Murfreesboro) at the Sound Shop in Stones River Mall and at Hastings off of Memorial Blvd. “It’s an awesome cd. It’s great to know one of my teachers can do something so tremendous,” said Cody Stephens, senior at Blackman High School. After hearing Whited’s songs, a songwriter from Glasgow, Scotland asked him to sing vocals on a country song he had written (and recorded in Nashville) entitled Honky Tonkin. The songwriter enjoyed the results immensely. It was released as a single on Hillcrest, a premier multi-artist disc that does radio marketing (primarily) overseas. With this release, Whited charted at number eight on the European Country Music Radio Pan European “Top 100 Chart” in August 2006, and has remained on the top 100 chart for over fifteen weeks as of this writing. On the National Top 40 he has been number one in Ireland and Australia; number two in France; number three in the United Kingdom; number four in Denmark; number five in Holland and Japan; number six in Malta and Sweden; number eight in Poland; and number ten in Austria.

For the last few months, Whited has been working on finishing Big Time, his second album, at the Bayou Studio in Nashville. He hopes eventually to release some of his original songs to Hillcrest Radio Marketing. Whited said, “I’m really pleased with the way it’s coming along…and expect (Big Time) to be received very well overseas…hey, maybe I’ll even get some interest from the radio folks in the U.S.A.” “Last year his cd was great, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his new cd was great, too,” said Jennilyn Belleza, Blackman High Junior. Whited also traveled to Europe in 2006 with EF Tours. He plans to take students to Spain in 2007. This past summer in Paris he enjoyed the Arc de Triomphe, Porte de Versailles, and the popular Eiffel Tower. He remarked that he definitely didn’t like “waiting for thirty minutes in the rain for a taxi”. Still, Whited noted, “It’s amazing how far a few French words and a smile can get you.” That’s an uncomplicated theory coming from a world traveler, a high school Spanish teacher, and a country music singer. Senor Whited’s official website can be viewed at www.JasonWhited.com Blackman Voice, European Sensation, pg.5 Volume 7. Issue 3, November 2006. Footnote: Since the publication of this article, Whited’s title-cut song “Big Time” from his album has been released as an advance promo with Hillcrest Radio Marketing. Owner and founder of Hillcrest, Ross Allen selected Whited as the monthly featured artist on his Premier Multi-Artist Disc # 33and recently stated, “Jason is already receiving a ton of airplay…and exposure. He could be headed for a number one hit song in Europe. It can only get better…” Jason’s not taking this statement made by “2006 ECMA Country Promoter of the Year Award-Winner” lightly…he’s hoping Ross Allen’s prediction proves correct—Big Time! |
